Terramac launches RT15R rotating crawler carrier with 15-ton payload capacity

Sugar Grove, Illinois-based Terramac has launched the RT15R, a new rotating rubber-track crawler carrier that succeeds the RT14R^[1]. The RT15R carries 30,000 lb (15 t) - a 2,000 lb increase over its predecessor^[1]. The machine is built in St. Louis and is available for worldwide shipment.

Payload and what it changes

The extra 2,000 lb of capacity is the headline change. Terramac targets the utility, pipeline, and general construction sectors, where the gain translates directly into fewer haul cycles per shift. The RT14R was rated at 28,000 lb; the RT15R closes the gap to the next tier of material-moving equipment without stepping up to a larger machine class.

Matt Slater, Terramac president, framed the launch as a response to field feedback: "Terramac is committed to listening to the needs of our dealers and end-users and the RT15R is a product of the feedback we've received."

Engine and serviceability

The RT15R uses an EGR-free engine that meets current emissions standards, a configuration Terramac says simplifies aftertreatment and reduces operating costs compared with EGR-equipped alternatives. Power output is rated at 320 hp @ 1,800 rpm, matching the RT14R's engine output. Ground pressure loaded is 8.3 psi - a figure relevant to operators working on soft or sensitive ground.

Serviceability has been reorganised around ground-level access:

• All daily service points - fuel, lubrication, and inspection checkpoints - are reachable from ground level
• Fuel and lubrication logistics have been consolidated to reduce time between checks
• Quieter operation and updated engine management systems are intended to simplify day-to-day running

Cab and safety upgrades

Terramac redesigned the operator environment across several areas:

• A larger touchscreen control display replaces the previous panel, with updated ergonomics
• Enhanced climate control systems have been added
• The exterior crusher screen has been replaced with a thicker, more durable windshield, improving forward visibility
• Extended access steps make entry and exit easier on long shifts
• Expanded operator alerts and a fire extinguisher are included as standard safety features

The 360-degree rotating upper structure carried over from the RT14R. That feature keeps the operator facing forward at all times regardless of dump direction, which Terramac says reduces fatigue and limits exposure to hazardous positions in confined workspaces.

What to watch

Terramac has positioned the RT15R as the top of its rotating carrier line, with the RT14R moving to legacy status. Rental fleets that currently run RT14Rs will be the primary buyers evaluating whether the payload gain and serviceability changes justify a fleet refresh. Pricing has not been disclosed. Availability through Terramac's U.S. and Canada dealer network is current; international shipments are also supported from the St. Louis facility.
