FieldAI's leadership team brings together expertise in AI foundation models and real-world robotics, with roots in Google DeepMind, NASA JPL's Mars exploration program, and DARPA's Subterranean Challenge and RACER programs. Context: Caterpillar's autonomy push
The FieldAI deal is not Caterpillar's first move into autonomy, but it is the most explicit commitment to physical AI on the construction side of its business. At CES 2026, Caterpillar took the main stage alongside NVIDIA and unveiled a vision in which Cat equipment is part of a connected network of intelligent machines that can observe, analyze and increasingly understand the world around them. The FieldAI partnership is the first named collaboration to operationalize that vision on live jobsites.
