CASE adds three D Series 3-ton mini excavators with zero tailswing and load-sensing hydraulics

CASE Construction Equipment launched three new D Series mini excavators - the CX30D, CX34D and CX38D - on 17 June 2026, targeting rental fleets and utility crews that need zero-tailswing machines in the 3-ton class. All three models share a 24.4 hp (18.2 kW) Kubota engine and zero-tailswing design, and were previewed at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2026 in Las Vegas before going on sale.

What separates the three models

The machines step up in operating weight and digging reach across the range:

• CX30D: 7,143 lb (3,240 kg) operating weight, 8 ft 8 in max dig depth (standard arm), 15 ft 5 in max reach, 0.12 cu yd standard bucket, 4,116 lbf breakout force
• CX34D: 7,672 lb operating weight, 9 ft 5 in max dig depth (standard arm), 16 ft 5 in max reach, 0.13 cu yd standard bucket, 6,800 lbf breakout force
• CX38D: 8,333 lb operating weight, 10 ft 11 in max dig depth (long arm), 17 ft 7 in max reach, 0.13 cu yd standard bucket, 6,800 lbf breakout force

The CX38D is the top-of-range model and comes standard with a long arm and thumb bracket, hydraulic auxiliary flow control, and electronic throttle control with auto idle. An optional six-way dozer blade is available for grading and backfilling. Both the CX30D and CX38D include a lights package for low-light operation; the CX34D does not carry this as standard.

All three share load-sensing hydraulics and electro-hydraulic joystick controls for the auxiliary circuits. A hydraulic pin-grabber coupler provision comes standard across the range, and a two-piece roll-up front window is included on all cab variants. The cab can be tilted for service access after removing two bolts, and daily service points are reachable at ground level. Cab and open-ROPS configurations are both available.

Attachment flexibility

CASE positions attachment compatibility as a central selling point. Standard auxiliary hydraulics and a second auxiliary circuit are fitted across the range; an optional third circuit and a constant-flow circuit extend compatibility to high-demand attachments such as mulchers. The CX38D also supports up to three auxiliary circuits and a dedicated mulcher circuit.

A pin-on bucket ships standard, and the machines are designed for digging, trenching, dirt moving and vegetation management applications.

Market context

Mini excavators are the second-highest selling financed product category in the U.S., accounting for 21.5% of all new financed construction equipment sales, according to Fusable's EDA equipment finance data. More than 32,500 new financed mini excavators were sold in the 12 months to May 2026, a 7.7% decrease year over year, with Fusable noting that affordability pressure is pushing more buyers toward used machines or rental - the segment CASE is explicitly targeting with the new D Series trio.

The CX30D, CX34D and CX38D extend CASE's D Series lineup, which also includes the CX12D, CX19D, CX42D, CX50D and CX60D. Watch for dealer availability updates and fleet order volumes from major rental operators as the machines move through their first full selling season.
